Description: They are simple phrases. They sound Christian—like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways. Join Adam Hamilton in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus. The clichés include: 1.) Everything happens for a reason; 2.) God helps those who help themselves; 3.) God won’t give you more than you can handle; 4.) God said it, I believe it, that settles it; and 5.) Love the sinner, hate the sin. This book study coincides with a 5-week preaching series at both centers. Each class session is held the week before the respective sermon is preached.

Invitation to the New Testament Bible Study

Title: Invitation to the New Testament

Co-Teachers: Pastor Scott S. Himel and Don Black

Start Date: Thursday, January 18th

Meeting Time: 2:30 to 4:00 PM

Frequency: Weekly, for 8 weeks

Location: Alpine Conference Room

Description: Explore the writings of the New Testament using the story of Jesus as the starting point. This survey of the New Testament looks at how the early church took ownership of and was shaped by the story of Jesus, and how the church learned how to develop as disciples and create communities of faith. Participants find a deeper conversation with the writers of the New Testament and a renewal of our commitment to be shaped—personally and communally—by the story of Jesus. The study is accessible for adults with little prior Bible experience.
