Junior High- 412

The Junior High youth group is for youth in 6th-8th grades. The 412 group meets September-May every Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m.

We emphasize fun, fellowship and learning about Jesus and how to walk with him in faith. We do this through a mix of curriculum, videos and stories. We then process what we learn in a small group setting with an adult leader and other students. We also have lock-ins (slumber parties), movie nights and outside activities throughout the school year and summer. CLICK for the registration form.

Hands of christ Puppet Ministry

Hands of Christ is a puppet ministry for 6th graders up to 12th grade who would like to learn more about puppets and professional staging.  We meet every Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. - 5:40 p.m. at our Alpine Center in the Puppet Room from September-April.  The Hands of Christ puppet group performs at various worship services throughout the year or at events like Dinner Theater and Vacation Bible School.

Hands of Christ Puppet Ministry will resume in September 2018.

Junior High- Special Events

There are many special events for the Junior High kids! Every year in August, we hold the Jr. High WorkCamp in Rockford. It's a two day long camp where the kids get to experience a taste of what WorkCamp is all about! They meet at the church and volunteer within the community doing maintenance, clean-up, painting and anything else that is needed. It's an awesome experience for the kids to get out and actually live out their faith through their actions and be of service to others.

Every fall, the Junior High youth group heads to Lake Geneva for Lake Geneva Youth Camp. This is a weekend trip for our Junior High youth members to explore their faith more in-depth and build new friendships.  CLICK for the registration form.

confirmation

All youth at the 8th level (or above if they were not confirmed) are invited to attend Confirmation on Sunday nights from 5-6:30PM in the Sacred Grounds Coffee House on the Alpine Campus (Door #5).  Confirmation Class will use Confirm curriculum from Cokesbury as our foundation, but the class will be taught using active learning, games, video, discussion and snacks.  Everyone learns better when they enjoy the learning experience.  Learning about one’s faith should be a joy not a chore.

Confirmation is a time for the youth to learn what it means to live into their faith:

The Confirmands do this by holding each other accountable to attend class each week.

They agree to attend worship as often as they are able, at least twice a month, and they celebrate their time in worship by taking a Worship Selfie that is posted on the Selfie Wall.  Some Worship Selfies are worth 2 points and others 3 depends on who and how many they managed to get in the selfie with them.  Each week in Confirmation the Confirmands share their Selfie stories.

The Confirmation Class will choose a Mission Project for the year.  It will come from a need they identify, and it will be something they undertake to help. It can be a global, national, or local issue.

The Confirmands will visit 2 other houses of worship from the Rockford area and worship with them, to better understand what it means to love God in an ecumenical and interfaith world.

Each week there will be discussions on Scripture, Christianity, and specifically United Methodist doctrine, and how it all relates to the world today. Specifically, how it relates to the youth today.
