Ways to Serve

Serving together is part of Christ UMC's mission of GATHER, GROW, and GO.

Check this page to see how you can get involved and be the hands

and feet of Jesus for those within our church and in our community.

The UWF will be holding the annual Cookie Blitz in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday, December 9 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (or until cookies are gone!). Homemade Christmas cookies will be baked and donated for sale by the box in time for the holiday season!

Bakers Needed: We’re asking for volunteers to bake 4-5 dozen Christmas cookies. Bring your cookies to the kitchen in Fellowship Hall on Thursday, December 7 (8:00 am-7:00 pm) or Friday, December 8 (8:00 am -5:00 pm).

If you’re not a baker, consider a donation: Checks can be made out to UWF with “Cookie Blitz” on the memo line and sent to the church office or placed in the offering plate. All proceeds will go to local charities.

Your efforts are much appreciated! Questions? Call Phyllis: (815) 633-2288 or Sally: (815) 222-5296.

Christmas Angel Project

Our Christmas Angel Gift Project is right around the corner! We currently serve 7 community organizations and will “gift” about 150 people this year. This is quite an undertaking. We need your help! Here's what you can do:

  • Pick up an Angel Tag at a Sunday service 11/19, 11/26, or 12/3 and shop for a $35 gift using the wishes on the tag. We ask that all gifts are returned (unwrapped) with the Angel Tag before Sunday, 12/10.
  • Donate tissue or gift bags (we no longer use wrapping paper/ribbon)
  • Come and bag with us! We can’t have enough baggers. Bagging will be at 4:30 pm on Monday, 12/11 and at 9 am on Tuesday, 12/12

This is a wonderful opportunity to socialize with fellow church members, get into the holiday spirit, and make a positive impact on our community! If you have any questions, please contact Teri Reynolds at tawr27@aol.com.

Winter is coming! We anticipate an urgent need for volunteers to assist in snow removal. We will need for snowplow drivers AND volunteers who are willing to operate snowblowers and clear walkways around our campus.

Snowplow drivers must have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and be willing to train with an experienced driver. Snowblower operators should be willing to do limited shoveling, apply ice melt, and effectively run a snow blower.

If you are willing to volunteer, please email tgreenland@christumc.cc.

Audio, Video, and Worship Service Production

A lot goes on behind the scenes to make Sunday service happen. Between the mics projecting the praise team and pastors, the words on the screen during worship, the livestream for those tuning in at home, and more, we’re always looking for volunteers (adults and youth!) to help service run smoothly.

Interested helping out behind the scenes? We’d love to have you! No experience is necessary- we'll teach you everything you need to know.

Get in touch with Josh at fdhayag@christumc.cc to learn more.

The variety of programs in our Children’s ministry offer many opportunities for high school students and adults to get involved as leaders, teachers, and volunteers. Visit our Children’s and Family Ministries page for a full list of programs and contact jhayag@christumc.cc for more information about how you can serve.

Music Ministries

Sanctuary choir is for anyone (high school or older) who enjoys singing 3-part music (SAB). The choir rehearses in the sanctuary most Thursdays, starting after Labor Day through the beginning of May, and generally sings at worship services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.

Wesley Ringer Handbell choir is for anyone (high school or older) who has a basic understanding of reading music. We rehearse in the balcony of the Sanctuary most Thursdays, starting after Labor Day through May, and generally plays at worship services on the 4th Sunday of the month.

We're always looking for people who play instruments to accompany the choirs, play in the Praise Team or Youth band, or play duets in church.

Interested in a music ministry? Contact Jody Warren, Director of Worship Arts, at jwarren@christumc.cc  for more information.

We’re thankful for help from members of our church family who help make Christ UMC a warm and inviting place to members and visitors alike as they walk through our doors. There are a variety of welcoming and hospitality roles to fill each Sunday by volunteers.

Contact Gayle at gaylegeorge837@comcast.net to learn more about serving as a volunteer greeter, coffee hour host, or communion server.
